'A blazing theatrical event, a single piece of stunning energy and invention, Johnson combines wild laughter with terrible pain.'
'At times you're not sure whether the tears running down your cheeks are because the piece is so funny or because it is so sad' - The Daily Telegraph
Meet the Dead Funny Society: a bunch of middle-class thirty-somethings bored of their suburban lives, united by their appreciation of old comedy greats. Richard's embittered wife Eleanor is the only non-member, watching as the others joke, grope and lie their way through an evening to celebrate the death of famous comedian Benny Hill, with hilarious and tragic consequences.
Dead Funny won the Writers Guild Award, Drama Critics Circle Award and the Time Out Drama Award when it premiered at the Hampstead Theatre in 1994.
